How Poles Affect Skiing
Poles are used to help you push off for the fist time when you head down the run. They can also be used to make very sharp turns when necessary and in emergency situations they can help you stop. Although
most people ski with poles they are not required when skiing. Most of the time you can make corrections and turns with your skis alone.

Top Ten Ski Resorts in North America:
1. Jackson Hole, WY
2. Deer Valley, UT
3. Vail, CO
4. Sun Valley, ID
5. Park City Mountain Resort, UT
6. Whistler Blackcomb, B.C.
7. Telluride, CO
8. Steamboat, CO
9. Snowmass, CO
10. Canyons, UT
It is very difficult to rank ski resorts because they are so different in conditions. For example a resort like Jackson Hole is a lot higher up in the northern hemisphere then Deer Valley, therefor the climate is a lot different.

How Different Types of Snow Effect Skiing
There are many types of snow and they all effect the way your skis move across the surface of the snow. One of the main differences between different types of snow is how wet or dry the snow is. If the snow is very dry it can be thrown around by the wind; therefore, making as if there is no snow because there is no base. If the snow is very wet the snow is slush. The slush makes you go slow because it is more water than it is ice. Another type of snow is icy snow. Ice is slush that has frozen because of the lack of new snow to all onto the surface. The ice makes you go fast because there is very low friction on ice. Powder is the ideal snow for most recreational skiers. It is usually the easiest to ski on because it is an even mix of ice and slush, giving you traction and speed at the same time.

Acceleration of Skiing 3/17/14
As you ski down the hill there are a lot of things you notice. Such as the next turn you will make, or where the tree you have to dodge is, or a big one, what little kid you have veer away from to prevent a crash. What you likely do not consider are things like your acceleration, the gravitational pull, potential energy and kinetic energy. These things are the factors that determine how your day on the mountain. For example the fasted skier in the world right now has a acceleration of 4.681m/s squared in 10 seconds.
